Bask In Summer Style With These Outdoor Essentials

Just in time for summer, two bold brands collide in a joyful burst of pattern and color. Fatboy teams up with Dusen Dusen to reimagine six of its most iconic outdoor pieces—including the Headdemock hammock, Paletti modular sofa, and Point pouf. Ellen Van Dusen brings her distinctive visual language of signature stripes and playful graphics to the durable UV- and weather-resistant Olefin textiles, offered in fresh hues like sage, orange, and pool blue. “I grew up with a Fatboy beanbag in my room,” she says. “So, it’s been incredible to bring our shared love of comfort and color to life.” The limited-edition collection debuted this spring at the MoMA Design Store.

Glimpse A Textured Armchair You’ll Want to Feel IRL

Montreal-based artist and Studio Rotolo founder Stefano Giacomello is best known for his hyper-realistic renderings of interior spaces—“decorated” with his own 3D-modelled digital furnishings. Those concepts have now become physical thanks to La Collection Rotolo from Parisian collectible design gallery Boon_Room. One such piece is La Poltrona, an armchair made of a bulky wood-and-steel structure padded with hand-shaped foam to offer up superlative comfort and pleasingly plump proportions (including a seat depth of 65.5 centimeters). Adding to its IRL charm are the multiple leathers and fabrics available, including from the “hairy and textured” category, like alpaca and teddy fur.

Barbara Barry Unveils Grass-Weave Window Coverings

Based in Los Angeles, Barbara Barry is a renowned interior and product designer, but she’s also a plein-air painter attuned to the nuances of nature. She brings that sensibility to her serene new collection for Hartmann&Forbes. Its four grass-weave window coverings are handwoven to size, up to 180 inches wide; they include delicate Retreat, made of ramie and banana fibers that softly shade a room. Among the four natural wallcoverings is Utopia, an artful pattern of overlapping ovals printed on cork, with a metallic layer that reflects the light. Dots dapple the dreamy Transcendence, a handwoven paper with a subtle ribbed texture. In soft colorways like silver sage and citrine, the elegant 26-SKU collection reflects the Interior Design Hall of Famer’s keen observation of light, hue, and texture.

These Bath Fixtures Pay Tribute To Achille Castiglioni

Taking a more intuitive approach than the typical H and C markings to designate hot and cold, these red and blue levers won’t get lost in translation: The colorful tabs guide your eyes and hands to just the right place. The new Achille Castiglioni Collection bath fixtures are based on the legend’s original drawings, sketches, and maquettes from the 1980s, thus honoring his creative intentions. A highlight is this compact and efficient single-hole design that integrates the functionality of a three-hole system, reducing the footprint to a minimum. Other iterations include wall-mount mixers, three- and five-hole deck mounts, shower fittings, and more. The series is the latest from Italian brand Mamoli’s Maestri series, all based on the historic works of Giò Ponti and Alessandro Mendini.

Make A Statement With This Eye-Popping Tile Collection

Isla is a little bit midcentury, a little bit mod. The series’ four graphic deco tiles by Nemo Tile + Stone include this circular motif, which looks especially fetching in white. (Soft coral, green, and sand colorways are also available, all against a light background for a slightly more contrast-y effect.) The tone-on-tone pattern is achieved via a glossy glaze applied to a matte background. An uneven pour results in delightfully irregular edges and texture, which softens the bold geometry and gives the porcelain a handcrafted look. Isla’s 8-inch deco tiles are suitable for walls only, while the coordinating monochrome modules can be installed on low-traffic floors, too.

Take Flight: Kites Shape A Sculptural Lighting Collection

Childhood memories are often the source of a major creative spark. For Michael Anastassiades, it was the making and flying of kites that led to Cygnet, a series of sculptural fixtures he debuted during Milan Design Week. The new work builds on his previous collection of equilibrium-themed fixtures: Each unit consists of two equilateral paper triangles—illuminated by a hidden light source—that seem to float in midair. Available in two sizes (24 and 35 inches long) and multiple configurations, Cygnet acts as both a light source and a spatial composition. The Cypriot designer also showed a custom Floor Mobile Chandelier, a set of illuminated globes upheld by an impossibly thin, curved brass armature (in a patinated Prussian-blue hue) with tripod base.

RF Studio Unveils ‘Soil Map’ Series Made From Industrial Waste

The process behind the experimental pieces in the Mapa de Suelos (“soil map”) series mirrors the complexity of the natural topographies they depict. Rafael Freyre, founder of Lima-based art and architecture practice RF Studio, assembles the tables from industrial-waste fragments of Peruvian stones—including marble, travertine, and variants of onyx—all sourced from Andean quarries. Labor-intensive traditional techniques are employed to achieve the nearly invisible joints. The patterns are based on aerial views of the Andes and the Amazon, landscapes that Freyre is drawn to both visually and ancestrally: His family has roots in the country’s highlands.
