Music Meets Gastronomy at VICIO Burger Club in Ibiza

The world’s biggest nightclub, [UNVRS] in Ibiza, is back open for business—with a gastronomical twist. A renovation that began during the COVID-19 pandemic has finally been completed, with design studio External Reference unveiling its project VICIO Burger Club within the space. The restaurant has created a 250-square-meter hybrid venue that merges gastronomy with clubbing culture across two levels. Led by Carmelo Zappulla, External Reference has had an ongoing collaboration with Spain’s leading smash burger brand. This project helps expand VICIO’s provocative aesthetic into nightlife territory.

The main floor transforms the traditional restaurant layout into something resembling a dance floor, anchored by a dramatic double-height space that serves as the venue’s epicenter. Adjacent high tables create a bar-like atmosphere for quick consumption, while an upper mezzanine offers respite with panoramic views of the venue below. The two floors combined can seat more than 50 diners.

VICIO Burger Club Invites Diners to an Electric Experience

Beyond the counter, which is wrapped in red LED-lit frosted polycarbonate, is an open kitchen, where patrons can see their burgers being cooked.

“This capsule, where music and gastronomy coexist on a level of extreme hedonism, is represented by a luminous, enveloping, and seductive grid,” Zappulla explains, describing the space as “a simulacrum that builds a hyperreal experience.”

Materials reinforce VICIO’s industrial identity through polished concrete and stainless steel surfaces, while the backlit bar directly references classic nightclub counters. The brand’s iconic “V” logo transforms into a suspended disco ball overhead, and VICIO’s signature black-and-red checkerboard pattern is reimagined as neon lighting that creates a moody atmosphere throughout the space.

External Reference Expands VICIO Into New Aesthetic Territory

The upper level, reached by stairs with treads of backlit glass blocks, seats up to 18 people.

Custom-fabricated columns echo the ceiling cage with embedded LED strips.

Custom-designed furniture outfits both levels, connected by a staircase featuring red backlit steps. Many details like these evoke the clubbing universe while reinforcing the brand’s distinctive visual codes. The result captures what External Reference calls “the detail of custom-made pieces, scenographic lighting, and an enveloping atmosphere” that expands VICIO’s universe into new territory where the thrill of containment meets aesthetic matrix.
